Sleepless Nights

Last night was no different than any other night. We put Princess to bed, stayed in her room until she fell asleep, then went to bed. At about 1:30 am, she woke up. Hubby went over to her room and fell asleep waiting for her to fall asleep. I took advantage of having the bed all to myself - spreading all of my 100 pillows out and sleeping in the center of the bed (don't tell Hubby). I fell asleep and started one of my vivid pregnancy dreams. I was just about to deliver this baby when...

I woke up hearing air brakes and a diesel engine. At first I didn't think anything of it. Then I realized it is 2:45 in the morning and most people that drive large trucks are not on a side street in the borough of Mechanicsburg. I looked out one of our windows and saw a whole street of blinking red lights. I woke Hubby up and ran downstairs. As I was looking out of the side window I noticed a fire fighter walking between my house and the neighbors house (which is only about an arms length away). After finding a pair of flip-flops and my coat (luckily I was wearing pajama pants and a t-shirt), I went out on our porch to find out what in the world was going on.

Here the neighbors who live in the house attached to the house right next to mine got home late and heard a smoke alarm in the attached house. They knocked on the neighbors door and no one answered so they called the fire department. After lining the street with emergency vehicles and knocking on the neighbors doors and windows and waking up the whole neighborhood, our next door neighbor answered his door.

No fire, no nothing. Just a malfunctioning smoke detector! He heard the alarm, but thought it was a car alarm outside - kind of scary! Just like that all the emergency vehicles were gone and our block looked normal again.

Hubby and I went back to bed but couldn't fall back to sleep for another 2 hours! Thankfully Princess slept through the entire thing and didn't wake up until 7 am.

Will I ever get a full nights sleep in again?!

college, yup, you'll sleep when they leave for college (when you're not wondering what in the world they are doing and if they remembered to brush their teeth before bed).
